HIDIZS has launched the new MP143 Salt Planar Magnetic Hi-Fi In-ear Monitors, the sibling model to the MP145. Both share similarities in many aspects but also have distinct features, reflecting HIDIZS's thoughtful planning in their "Ocean Planar Family." What are the similarities and differences between the popular MP145 and the newly released MP143 Salt?

I. Common Features

Both the MP145 and MP143 Salt are equipped with HIDIZS's custom planar magnetic driver, which provide excellent sound clarity, low distortion, and a wide dynamic range. As custom units, each driver undergoes meticulous tuning in the HIDIZS Acoustic Lab, aiming for the H-2019 frequency response curve to ensure accurate, natural, and balanced audio performance. Both models achieve an ultra-wide frequency response range of up to 40kHz, meeting Hi-Res certification standards.

The MP143 Salt also employs the same unique pneumatic sound nozzles technology as the MP145. Users can adjust the acoustic characteristics by changing the sound nozzles to obtain three distinct sound signatures: high frequency, balanced, and low frequency, catering to various music genres. The lightweight and ergonomic design of both models ensures long-term wearing comfort and stability.

MP145 can be tuned with 9 different sound styles by three tuning filters, due to the 3 types of ear tips (Treble/Balanced/Bass). However, MP143 allow to be tuned with 6 different sound styles due to the 2 types of ear tips ( (Treble/Balanced).

The MP143 Salt is equipped with the "FAST 2" 14.3mm symmetrical planar magnetic driver, which is slightly smaller than the driver in the MP145. Despite the smaller size, its audio performance is equally impressive, handling the full frequency range with ease. This reflects HIDIZS Acoustic Lab's extensive experience in tuning planar drivers, ensuring the MP143 Salt delivers a mature and refined audio experience. 

The MP143 Salt comes with a 4-strand braided high-purity oxygen-free copper cable, chosen after multiple tests and adjustments in the HIDIZS Acoustic Lab. The synergy between the cable and the driver is crucial for high-tension audio transmission, reducing signal loss and enhancing audio clarity. 

The MP143 Salt adheres to HIDIZS's consistent "natural and balanced" tuning philosophy, combined with the rich details and high sound density of planar drivers, achieving a cohesive and smooth listening experience.

The midrange is accurate and crisp, the low frequencies are clear and punchy with excellent elasticity, and the high and ultra-high frequencies are well-extended. It effortlessly handles various music genres such as classical, pop, vocals, jazz, and rock, making it an excellent companion for HiFi audiophiles.

Appearance Design Differences 

Both models are made from full aluminum alloy, meticulously sculpted using CNC technology, giving them a distinctive and recognizable design look. 

The MP145, as the first whale-inspired design product from HIDIZS in collaboration with WDC, marked the beginning of the "Ocean Planar Family" and was the first instance of cooperation between an audio product and a non-profit organization, receiving widespread public recognition and support.

When HIDIZS and WDC advanced the MP143 project, they realized that love for the planet couldn't just be a superficial commitment. Thus, they named it ‘Salt’ in honor of the famous humpback whale Salt—a whale that has a long-standing relationship with WDC. The intricate wave patterns and the silhouette of a whale leaping out of the water on the casing combine ocean and whale elements more concretely in the product design. This continues the oceanic theme of the MP145 while further developing HIDIZS's aesthetic style, symbolizing the harmonious integration of technology and nature.

Outlet Size Design and Fit Differences 

The MP143 Salt has a more compact design compared to the MP145, making it more suitable for a wider range of ear sizes (the grandeur of the MP145 had deterred some users). According to measurements, the MP145's longest side, widest side, and net height are 26.3mm, 20.3mm, and 24.9mm, respectively, with a nozzle outer diameter of 6mm and pneumatic sound tube (filter nozzle) outer diameter of 7mm.

In comparison, the MP143's corresponding dimensions are 26mm, 19.4mm, and 20.6mm, with the nozzle outer diameter remaining at 6mm, but the pneumatic sound tube (filter nozzle) outer diameter reduced to 6.5mm.

Compared to the MP145, the widest side and net height are reduced by 5% and 18%, respectively. Additionally, the MP143's design more closely considers the physiological characteristics of the ear and employs a slanted structure, reducing the total weight to 8 grams, 20% lighter than the MP145's 9.8 grams. Smaller, lighter, and more conforming to the ear, the MP143 offers a more comfortable wearing experience, suitable for smaller ears as well.
