Akros already considers the original MK12 one of his favorite single dynamic driver IEMs, which gives him a clear reference point for assessing the MK12 X DUCBLOKE. In his view, this collaboration takes that excellent foundation and pushes it firmly toward a specific audience: listeners who want bass to dominate the experience.
Bass Becomes the Entire Focus
The defining change is a substantial increase in bass. Akros describes it as a very healthy dose, turning the MK12 X DUCBLOKE into a niche-oriented IEM that particularly suits electronic music, loud rock, rap and other bass-heavy styles.
On EDM tracks, he admits the result can sound absolutely incredible. For listeners who want one of the more extreme bass presentations available, he believes the collaboration delivers exactly what it promises.
Much of that success, according to Akros, comes from the driver itself. He repeatedly calls it phenomenal and praises its ability to handle demanding low-frequency material.
A Deliberate Tradeoff
That emphasis also creates compromises. Akros feels the bass can occasionally become borderline excessive and somewhat one-note. Listeners seeking detail, realistic tonality, strong imaging, soundstage performance or micro and macro detail will not find those qualities to be the main strengths here.
He considers the original MK12 more balanced for his own preferences. The DUCBLOKE version uses a fixed red nozzle rather than the interchangeable nozzle system of the standard model, and Akros wishes additional nozzles had remained available to provide greater physical tuning flexibility.
He acknowledges DucBloke’s use of equalization, but notes that listeners could also apply EQ to the standard MK12. For that reason, he sees this edition primarily as a purpose-built choice for people who specifically want its elevated bass presentation.
Familiar Quality, Distinct Identity
Build quality remains consistent with the original MK12 in Akros’s assessment. He also likes the red cable, Velvet tips and included case, while the striking red appearance gives the collaboration its own recognizable identity.
The tuning is equally distinctive. Rather than attempting to satisfy every listener, it unapologetically concentrates on delivering tremendous bass impact.
Overall Assessment
Akros considers the HIDIZS MK12 X DUCBLOKE interesting, capable and extremely specialized. It would not be his recommendation for jazz, detail-focused listening or anyone seeking an audiophile-style balance across technical qualities.
For EDM, rap and aggressively bass-heavy music, however, his conclusion changes completely. He says this is “definitely” the one for that audience and believes its bass performance reaches territory associated with some dedicated bass-focused alternatives.
Akros recommends listening before purchasing because the presentation is intentionally niche. But if more bass is exactly what a listener wants, the MK12 X DUCBLOKE ticks the right boxes, powered by a driver he considers genuinely exceptional overall.
