HIDIZS MK12 Turris Review - In-ear Gems

The HIDIZS MK12 Turris won over In-ear Gems by embracing the character of a single dynamic driver rather than chasing a perfectly conventional tuning. After two weeks of daily use, the reviewer concludes that its energetic, toe-tapping presentation makes it easy to forgive some shortcomings elsewhere.

Bass Is the Real Trump Card

For In-ear Gems, the MK12’s greatest achievement is its bass response, which he calls “close to perfection.” Rather than emphasizing deep sub-bass rumble, it favors strong mid-bass punch and delivers each beat with substantial weight.

He is especially impressed by its dynamics. Bass notes move crisply from silence to their peaks, creating an explosive sense of drive and energy. Despite this force, he does not hear the MK12 as simply drowning recordings in an oversized bass shelf.

With the default gold nozzles, which formed the basis of his testing, the overall signature is a relatively tamed V-shape. The midrange retains enough warmth and thickness to avoid sounding thin, while upper-mid emphasis provides clarity. Treble takes more of a back seat.

Resolution and Space Hold Up Well

Resolution exceeds his expectations for a single dynamic driver. Complex orchestral music sounds incisive and well separated, while micro-detail remains solid. The soundstage also extends impressively beyond the ears.

There are limitations. Low-frequency-heavy tracks can become congested, and depth perception is not convincing. Brass can sound muted or boxy, while cellos sometimes lack power and thickness. He therefore feels the overall tuning could use further refinement.

The alternative nozzles introduce trade-offs rather than straightforward improvements. Silver adds presence and stage height but can make the midrange hollow and mildly harsh. Red adds warmth, body and richer lower-register reproduction, but sacrifices some bass definition and clarity.

Comfort Over Visual Appeal

Although each CNC-machined earpiece feels hefty in the hand, In-ear Gems finds the MK12 comfortable once worn. The contours, nozzle angle and modest nozzle dimensions distribute the weight effectively.

He is less enthusiastic about the faceplate design and stock cable. The cable tangles easily, while the oversized faceplate creates awkward pressure around the two-pin connection. By contrast, he likes the compact, well-lined carrying pouch.

Overall Assessment

In-ear Gems considers the HIDIZS MK12 Turris an honest and exceptionally fun single-DD IEM. Its tonal balance and technical performance are not flawless, but its powerful dynamics and compelling bass repeatedly pull his attention back to the music.

Listeners prioritizing refined treble, natural brass reproduction or precise depth may find weaknesses. For those who value energetic mid-bass, wide staging, solid resolution and an unapologetically lively presentation, however, the MK12 delivers what he describes as a “bloody fun” listening experience.
